Another design supplier has joined the green movement, with Minwax naming the “Soft Olive” stain as its color of the year for 2022.

At the end of each year, paint and stain companies name their colors of the year for the following year, and all but one have chosen a shade of green: Benjamin Moore’s October Haze, Lingering Fog from Sherwin-Williams, Glidden’s Guacamole, PPG’s Olive Sprig and Behr’s Breezeway. . Only Pantone took a different direction, creating Very-Peri – a purple periwinkle – as its top pick.

Miniwax, part of Sherwin-Williams Consumer Brands, made its announcement on Wednesday, citing soothing sage green/Gentle Olive gray as its top pick.

“Over the past two years, we’ve made our homes a more comforting place, a place focused on our well-being, where we decompress and clear our minds,” says Sue Kim, color marketing manager at Minwax. . “This year’s Minwax Color of the Year reflects the search for serenity in our changing routines, as Gentle Olive creates a meditative vibe that injects daily optimism into the home.”

She calls Gentle Olive a “positive and reassuring” color that is “grounded in the calm and restorative qualities of nature.”

Each color of the year announcement came with references to the need for a connection to nature and a sense of calm after nearly two years of the coronavirus pandemic as well as social and political unrest.
