CAMBRIDGE – The Dorchester Center for the Arts is pleased to welcome nationally acclaimed artist Chris Carter for a two-day workshop on May 6-7 titled “The Playful Palette – Color Games to Hone Your Skills”. Chris will share two of his favorite games to explore the magical world of colors and color combinations.
Using a limited palette of six pigments, students will play her color scheme and enjoy the process of color mapping. The workshop includes a bonus drawing lesson that will make the color game even more fun.
A list of equipment will be issued upon registration. Students can use whatever medium they choose. Chris will demonstrate using watercolor. The hours will be Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $55 for DCA members, $95 for non-members. Register online at dorchesterarts.org, by phone at 410-228-7782 or in person at 321 High Street in Cambridge.
Originally from New Jersey, Chris travels the world painting outdoors, leading workshops and sketching the experiences of his days. She also works in her studio creating large abstract paintings that express the movement of forms in space.
Several years ago, she created a program she calls Street Smart Geometry. It brings together mathematics, science and art in the form of illustrated polyhedrons and flexagons created in the streets and in the parks of towns and villages.
One of its aims is to bring the joy of creating art out of the privacy of the studio, galleries and museums and into the daily and night life of those who may not be exposed. to how artists are inspired and how they work.
More recently, she has started paragliding, drawing and painting with watercolors while paragliding in tandem with her son. Adventure painting is his next adventure. Visit his website at chriscarterart.com.
